The
Malinké people who inhabit the savannah and woodlands
of upper Guinea are intimately connected to the land on which
they live. They live as subsistence farmers, in a harsh environment,
where mere survival requires great strength and hard work.
At the heart of their culture is an ancient music that accompanies
almost every significant event of village life. This music
is a vehicle for joy and sorrow, which is expressed through
song and dance. When they head out to the fields, farmers
are often accompanied by the village musicians, whose music
helps set a tempo for the work. Imagine groups of farmers
singing and moving to the rhythm of the music while they work;
it is a beautiful sight. In this recording Mansa Camio and
Sofoli play traditional Malinké music that would normally
accompany farmers as they work in the fields.
Les Malinkes qui vivent dans la savane
et le pays boisé de la haute Guinée ont un liaison
intime avec la terre qu’ils cultivent. Ils sont des
fermiers de subsistance dans une environnement dure, où
il faut de la force et du travail dur pour survivre. Au cœur
de la culture est une musique ancienne qui accompagne presque
chaque évènement important de la vie du village.
La musique est un véhicule pour la joie et la douleur,
qui s’éxprime par la danse et la chanson. Quand
ils s’en vont aux champs, les fermiers sont souvent
accompagnés par les musiciens du village, dont la musique
aide à mettre le temps pour travailler. Imaginez les
groupes de fermiers chantant et mouvant au rhythme de la musique
en travaillant; c’est un beau spectacle. Dans cette
enregistrement Mansa Camio et Sofoli jouent la musique Malinke
qui accompagnient traditionnellement le travail des fermiers
aux champs.
